FABA is starting new a tradesmen’s list (Wood, plumbers, electricians, etc). If you have information on a tradesman or supplier that you would recommend to other members please pass it to a committee member by e-mail or in writing. The list will then be made available at the main meetings, the Plat de Jour or by e mail.

The President holds an English translation of the French tax rules that can be signed out.

Social responsibilities – helping each other. A Social organization has a different meaning in France. It is hoped that this function of FABA is to be expanded but kept informal. This cannot be organized centrally but if you are aware of someone needing help but cannot help them yourself please ask someone who can.

If you are resident in France and you have a Carte Vitale, it is important to remember that when you go back to visit the UK (or any other European country or Switzerland), you must have a Carte Européenne d'Assurance Maladie.

Should you need a doctor or hospital care while in the UK or other European country you must produce this card - this way all medical costs incurred are covered.

All you need to do is to call either your local CPAM (Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie), for example at Saintes: tel. 0820 904 144, or the English speaking help line (Mon - Fri 9h.00-18h.00): tel. 0811 363 646. You need to contact them about 3 weeks before you are due to go away, and ask for this card. They will ask you for your social security number, which is on your Carte Vitale. And that's it. They will post it to you. The card is valid for one year and each person traveling must carry one.
